A great success! Good turnout, dry, warm weather and lots of volunteers, music
and free food!
Lynni Miller's brilliant idea saw a good number of the community turn out and
work hard to complete the garden. There is still much to be done, but the
majority of the work is complete.
As the pictures show, everyone had a great time and will have a great day to
remember. Due to the lateness of dry weather, the rose garden area was not
prepared and it was decided to give the roses a better chance by properly
preparing the beds.
Now we can start on the Memorial phase of this project. Yes, always more to do!
But then, if not, we would have to disband! The town of Shasta Lake can give
themselves a great big hand for the terrific work done yesterday. A visible
reminder of the "can do" spirit that founded this town.

Saturday morning on Shasta Dam
Boulevard was the scene of a major
promotional effort by the Shasta Lake Garden Project to complete the planting
phase of its Community Memorial Park.
To this end, some 70 volunteers from businesses
throughout the community showed up with rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows to
plant 150 shrubs and trees in one day.
Luckily, the weather was perfect – sunny and not too hot.
Music to plant by was provided by Mike Rader, an active supporter of
community benefit events. Pizza
for the hardworking volunteers was donated by Pizza Factory and Boomtown Pizza.
Drinks were donated by Farmers Market.
Many
other businesses also contributed cash or materials to help with the project.
Creekside Gardens graded and prepared the area for planting and
installed an irrigation system. Rico
Montenegro, a certified horticulturist and arborist consultant, arranged the
trees and shrubs in their planting locations.
At the end of the day, the newly planted garden was a
lovely sight to behold. Everyone
who participated in this project should be proud of their accomplishment.
It’s a wonderful example of the community pulling together to make
things happen.
