This is the 10th Annual Garden
Tour and English Tea for the Shasta Lake Garden Project.
Members plan an even more special tour and tea to celebrate the
10th year of "enhancing the community through gardening" as the club motto so
The tea and tour is scheduled for Sunday June 3. This is the
main fund raiser for the non-profit group with all proceeds going directly to
the gardens that the SLGP started along Shasta Dam Boulevard 10 years ago.
Donation is $20 per person. . Maps and tickets are available in
advance only and can be obtained by mail at P.O. Box 505, Shasta Lake, and CA
96019. Or at Creekside Gardens on Twin View, Wild Thyme Gifts & Gardens on
Oregon St or Jose Antonios on Hartnell.
5 private gardens and the newly created Community Memorial
Garden will be open for the tour. Part of the Memorial gardens is dedicated to
native plants. Native American and retired teacher, Genny Seeley will be giving
instructional talks, explaining the growth and uses of these interesting plants
every hour during the tour.
Pat Mallotte will be selling her year's bonanza of plants
especially propagated for this area from her home garden.
Organizers said the gardens will have a wide variety of design
and specimen plants. Focal points will include gazebos, ponds, creeks and
spectacular views. Each garden has presented a unique challenge to the gardener
and shows ways to cope with terrain and microclimate.
The English tea will be held in a serene garden of a Tierra Oaks
estate. Guests will be served imported tea and tasty delicacies from fine
Musicians playing classical and traditional music will change
every hour at the garden where the tea is being held
Artists and artisans at the various gardens will be
demonstrating their skills and selling their garden art
The menu will be served by students from Liberty Christian under
the direction of Blair and Kristine Benham.
